She campaigned for Obama and is a major liberal but she signed on to a SodaStream ad that was prepared for Super Bowl viewing. The BDS crowd objected, the Super Bowl ad was indeed banned then after protests and some revision – the new ad is nicer to the Coke/Pepsi competition – it was set to be shown Sunday.

ScarJo was asked to step down from the SodaStream ad but refused so the BDS pushed Oxfam to renounce her as their global ambassador.  Instead Scarlett Johansson resigned from Oxfam and criticized the BDS [Boycott, Divest and Sanction, and it’s a movement full of well known antiSemitics] movement. Score: top Hollywood actress/liberal/beauty: 2. Oxfam: -1. BDS: -2. Hats off to her brains and courage.  The latest updates: http://legalinsurrection.com/2014/01/bds-takes-oxfam-down-with-it-as-scarlett-johansson-resigns//#more

Another small bit of news for SodaStream, winning a case in French court. Hey, the BDS-ers were only doing some lying against SodaStream. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.571217

French court rules boycott group cease denigrating campaign against SodaStream

Court rules French boycott group cease and desist from campaigns against the Israeli company, which operates factory in West Bank.

BTW, I own a deluxe SodaStream system and we love it. Well made, delicious soda  made at home, and replacement syrups are easy to find. We had a tiny issue when we first purchased it [from QVC] and the Customer Service response was phenomenal.

Some more good news. There are some resisters to the BDS movement. Here’s some famous and not-so-famous people and groups. http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/7-people-who-stood-with-israel-in-2013/

The anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian movement is particularly strong in colleges, both students and professors, especially in the social sciences and humanities and among Muslim students/professors. It’s ugly. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/01/12/i-will-soak-a-koffiye-with-your-blood-former-pro-palestinian-student-leader-slammed-for-facebook-posts-praising-violence-against-israel/

There is only one Jewish state in the world: Israel. There is only one democracy in the Middle East: Israel. For some haters, that is one Jewish state and one democracy too many.                      http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/11/israel-haters-and-hezbollah-at-the-university-of-washington//#more

While life goes on as usual in the caffeinated city, a concentrated and vicious strain of Israel hatred has taken root at the center of Washington State’s flagship University.

I’m no PajamaWoman

I know which man interests me more. If I were an Obama supporter, I’d be royally ticked that Obama and his Democrat liberals see me as this “2013 man”

I heard this a few years ago but the story went nowhere. This doesn’t fit into the MSM narrative of Inevitable Hillary Clinton, the Perfect Woman Candidate. Ever heard that Hillary came to DC as a young lawyer to work on the Watergate investigation because she was so pumped about government accountability? Seems pretty funny now, after watching her and the Obama administration get increasingly lawless yet unaccountable for 5 years now. Keep in mind when you read this that no one credibly believed Nixon knew of the plans to burgle Watergate ahead of time but he did participate in the coverup. Keep in mind that Watergate happened after hours and no one was hurt in any way, they were looking for info to use about McGovern. Keep in mind that despite years of searching, no one has found evidence that Nixon used his IRS against his enemies or any other agency in any way against them, despite all the posturing from the Jane Fonda martyrs.

Turns out Hillary’s inspiring story of Watergate isn’t really all that inspiring, that she was a nutty political hack. Guess she just practicing for the later Democratic Party. http://downtrend.com/robertgehl/while-on-watergate-committee-hillary-was-fired-for-lying-unethical-behavior/  Go read it and be prepared. Note that she was fired by her own supervisor, a lifelong Democrat.

The very liberal Cincinnati Inquirer newspaper is upset that conservatives are winning some school board elections and represent a threat to schools – and your kids – in the area. Horrors! Some conservatives on school boards? That’s so “extreme” they might frown on handing out condoms to kids or teaching kids to masturbate or …..http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2014/01/29/cincinnati-enquirer-frets-over-conservatives-public-school-boards-affect

Lots of awards and fawning over the recently deceased Pete Seeger, who was an excellent singer/composer/arranger and nice guy. He was also an avowed and unrepentant Communist since the 1930’s, when he worked with the Popular Front , which was formed at the Seventh Congress of the Communist International and primarily concerned about the Nazi threat to Communism. Although Seeger later expressed regret about the millions killed by Stalin himself and the many more millions killed by Communism by others and in other countries, he joined the Communist Party in 1942 and never left. He didn’t think Pearl Harbor merited the US getting into WWII and wrote angry antiwar songs, until Hitler invaded the Soviet Union and then Seeger wrote angry prowar songs telling FDR to get a move on it  to help Stalin. The first article  by Howard Husock at City Journal discusses not only the Popular Front but how Seeger, Woody Guthrie, the Almanacs/Weavers and other musical Communists united in the 1960’s to hijack folk music and influence an entire generation to move them toward the left.  http://www.city-journal.org/html/15_3_urbanities-communist.html America’s Most Successful Communist .

The second article discusses his recent awards and whitewashing of his radical life story. http://www.examiner.com/article/the-dark-side-of-pete-seeger  One thing people forget. The left loves to talk about what an unlikable alcoholic Joe McCarthy was but both his Senate investigation and the House investigation uncovered numerous Communists in the government, many of whom actually were spies and had access to sensitive government documents and information. A number of them later went to live in Communist Soviet Union, some were given awards for their spying and many important activities, such as the atomic bomb infrastructure were compromised in order to aid the USSR.

Even for the Obama-sucking MSM, this is bad. http://minx.cc/?post=346818  at Ace of Spades: NBC’s Political Director:  When You Think About It, The Story of the Veteran Soldier Who Did Ten Tours of Duty and Was Badly Injured Defending This Nation and Who Now Spends Every Day in Painful Physical Rehabilitation Is Kind of Obama’s Story, Isn’t it?  Yeh because getting hit by an IED and losing an eye plus permanent brain damage while serving your country is exactly like having to deal with political opponents who disagree with you. Which has never happened to any other politicians. Remember how wonderful Obama, Pelosi, Reed, Clinton et al were to George W Bush? Me neither.

Here’s one review of Obama’s 2014 State of the Union Address. No I didn’t watch it, what a waste of time and brain cells that would be.

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/01/28/obamas-fifth-state-of-the-union-is-in-the-books/2/

Obama stood before a joint session of Congress and told them that he was done with them. He told them that he intended to sideline them whenever he can. And the Democrats elected to that body, who are supposed to defend its constitutional responsibilities and powers, cheered. It was a ghastly sight, unworthy of our nation’s station as the world’s oldest functioning republic.

[…]

This is a president who thinks it sound and reasonable policy to force nuns to pay for the birth control of Georgetown law students, and to take them to court to make it so. That’s really all one needs to know about him. He can’t be reasoned with, and the next three years are going to be a long, hard slog for those of us who disagree with him.

Oh he’ll be a doofus at the SOTU Address all right.

There’s a lot of stupid on MSNBC but this is terrible because it’s dangerous. It’s not as if she’s 18 and doesn’t remember Iran. This new whitewashing of Iran by lefties will get us killed. Before the 1979 hostage crisis in which Iran kidnapped Americans at a supposedly safe Embassy – Iran as a country was expected to guarantee their safety just as America does for foreign embassies here – Americans paid no attention to Iran. The return of the Ayatollah Khomeni from exile in France upon the abdication of the Shah worsened the unrest, and we learned to despise him. We’ve been enemies ever since, Ronald Reagan was right when he called them “barbaric,” a term the mullahs hated. But the fundamentalist mullahs are in charge of the country, imposing a radical Islam fundamentalism upon its own citizens. Lefties excusing the radical mullahs doesn’t help the citizens, especially the women, the gays, the Christians.

In a shocking declaration on her 1 p.m. ET hour MSNBC show Tuesday, host Andrea Mitchell asserted that one of America’s fiercest enemies was actually a friend to the U.S. before George W. Bush came along: “Up until that moment, Iran was cooperating with the United States on the border of Afghanistan, it was post-9/11, Iran was more or less an American ally. By being included in the Axis of Evil, it turned the Iranian government in a completely different direction.”

I went to Jungle Jim’s in Cincinnati and was thoroughly irritated by a mural next to the bread. It showed hippie looking guys holding grains and said something about ‘From the 60’s, we learned about good food’ and had pics of wheat and corn. What a crock. I bought and still own some of those 60’s cookbooks and joined many food co-ops through the years. It taught people: eat lots of grain, just make it whole grain, eat organic and go meatless.

Oddly enough large segments of the Gluten Free movement come from Berkeley, California, which makes me nervous since that’s where the 60’s whole grain/organic/meatless movement originated. Did eating all that whole grain help us? Did meatless help us? Did organic help us? I don’t see research supporting that.

I know the argument about genetic changes in wheat but the reality is we went high-carb and low protein and low fat and the wrong fats. The protein tended to be processed soy, which is raising concern. Several food recalls have been of expensive organic produce shipped from far away, and isn’t as good as local foods that have some pesticides. The best way to eat is the way some of us grew up in Eastern Kentucky: grow your own produce or get it from neighbors, eat meat you or your neighbors raise and prepare, and eat raw dairy from people you know to be clean, Ah. Trying to find the modern equivalent, based on current research. I’ve no nutritional training at all but I’ve watched and followed diets and fads for a long time.

If you’re a vegetarian thinking of going GF and/or paleo, my advice is don’t do both at the same time. Start eating meat with your ordinary bread or go GF as a vegetarian. Meanwhile, it’s all in your head:

Must confess the meat is still hard for me, although I know other vegetarians move back quite easily. I hate sounding weak sister so I’m determined to advance. I’ve been eating some meat, though. I have no sympathy for my emotional reactions, so here’s some stuff I’ve fixed.

I’m eating some full-fat dairy, nuts, and I’m making gluten free breads and snacks without  sugar/honey/syrup but with stevia and occasionally a tiny bit xylitol.

Made Practical Paleo [Diane Sanfilippo] Citrus & Herb Roasted Chicken. I used some good-quality Kroger Simple Truth whole chickens. Hubby removed giblets and put stuff inside but I did the rub and everything else. It was delicious and we ate on it for a week. I fixed it with basic vegetables and Paleo bread the first day, same version with different veggies the next day, then made Chicken Soup with broth and fresh carrots/onions/herbs and frozen peas the next, then Chicken Salad with mayo/grapes/toasted sliced almonds, then sandwiches, then easy casserole with gluten free roux, package of frozen veggies and several kinds of cheese.

Also made Against All Grain [Danielle Walker] Rosemary Breadsticks, which I didn’t like because of the garlic salt so I remade them completing omitting that item. That made them a little bland but we liked them a lot. Excellent for someone like me to use with meaty stuff.

I made some pork chops using good-quality center cut loin chops. I coated with King Arthur GF Flour and salt/pepper, then seared for a few minutes. I put the chops on a meat rack in a large baking sheet and poured hot water in bottom then loosely covered with aluminum foil and baked for about an hour on oven, about 375 as I recall. I confess I didn’t eat any but my husband raved over them.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a pic of Paleo Cooking from Elana’s Pantry [Elana Amsterdam] Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies which were good but I didn’t use many chips because of sugar so I remade using Lily’s Dark Chocolate Chips With Stevia. The recipe calls for 1/4 c honey so I experimented with a toss of liquid stevia and erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol. I’m cautious with sugar alcohols and avoid most of them like sorbitol but I can handle very low doses of erythritol. It’s no excuse to eat a bunch of cookies, portion control still counts. Sissy loved them, the recipe is almost perfect for me but a tinge bitter so I’m still experimenting with the sweeteners.

paleo choc chip cookiebanana bread

Also made Against All Grain Banana Bread. I didn’t add chocolate chips or raisins but I did add a few chopped nuts. It was very good, and banana bread is a big comfort food for me.

Eating out:  at Bella Notte I ordered  roasted chicken half with balsamic glaze and crushed potatoes off the GF menu but I couldn’t eat them. To my surprise the potatoes had bacon chunks [not crispy] in them. Hubby ate them and I ate his Rice Pasta with Kalamata Olives, which was good but it raised my blood sugar more than I wanted. Not a good experience. I had a Simple Cheeseburger at the new BRU in Lexington, ordered it well done with extra cheese on GF bun. It was very good but I like the GF buns at Red Robin better. At the hugely popular Texas Roadhouse in Ashland [no GF menu] I ordered Chicken Caesar Salad Entrée with baked potato and it was also very good. Chicken was in small strips and wasn’t rubbery like a lot of restaurant chicken. At Panera, which has excellent GF menu, I had Tomato Soup w/o croutons, small Greek Salad and apple. Very tasty and they are super nice about GF, which Red Robin is also.

Meanwhile my go-to dishes remain canned tuna in olive oil mixed with avocado  and lots of standard egg dishes w/o any gluten.

Think this week I will concentrate on cauliflower as substitute for white potatoes and rice, and try some chicken breast recipes. Also think it’s time to try some fish recipes.

This is my version of some kind of paleo. At this stage of the game.
