Unfortunately the terrible attack on Camp Bastion in Afghanistan 9/14/2012 was overshadowed by the Benghazi Massacre and the presidential campaign. But this was a devastating attack at a huge US military facility, made more shocking by the toll on USMC resources. Two Marines, Lt Col Christopher Raible and Sgt Bradley Atwell, were killed after Raible got into a vehicle and led a group of men in an attempt to fight off the attackers, who dressed in US military uniforms and infiltrated the base.
One of the few people to faithfully cover the debacle is Michelle Malkin. Here’s her latest report: http://michellemalkin.com/2013/09/30/accountability-for-camp-bastion-families-2-marine-generals-reportedly-fired/
The commandant of the Marine Corps on Monday took the extraordinary step of firing two generals for not adequately protecting a giant base in southern Afghanistan that Taliban fighters stormed last year, resulting in the deaths of two Marines and the destruction of a half a dozen U.S. fighter jets.
It is the first time since the Vietnam War that a general, let alone two, has been sacked for negligence after a successful enemy attack. But the assault also was unprecedented: Fifteen insurgents entered a NATO airfield and destroyed almost an entire squadron of Marine AV-8B Harrier jets, the largest single loss of allied materiel in the almost 12-year Afghan war.
She also has links to her earlier reports. Malkin’s been particularly vigilant at reporting the MSM blackout and President Obama’s public stonewall. Everyone in the country knows the name of common street criminal Trayvon Martin thanks to Obama using him to shore up his political base but the Commander in Chief doesn’t even mention Camp Bastion or Raible and Atwell? That’s a disgrace. Martin was a thug, these men were true American heroes.
