I consider SPLC a partisan hack of an organization that pretends to gather neutral data on dangerous groups. It’s a bit like asking Sean Penn or Rep Maxine Waters what could hurt our nation; turns out dangerous groups are Republicans, conservatives or right wing. In fact, the SPLC admitted last year they have no category of leftwing groups, and threw the New Panthers in with the rightwing dangerous Patriots. Yeh, the Tea Party is a dangerous Patriot group to SPLC.
Libertarian Rand Paul [R-KY] drives SPLC crazy. William Jacobson notes that SPLC put Rand Paul on the 2011 list of Electoral Extremists. http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/03/splc-put-rand-paul-on-2011-list-of-electoral-extremism/ Obviously, SPLC was trying to scare Kentucky voters to against electing Paul. Major newspapers in the state -including my own area Ashland Daily Independent joined the scaremongers – tried the same tactic but failed. They havent’s stopped trying to scare us, though.
Jacobson noted a couple of days ago that it’s time for fund-raising, so here comes the expected SPLC ‘report’ that warns liberals to wring their hands yet again over ‘explosive growth’ of dangerous rightwing groups. Jacobson also points out the inaccuracies behind their sensationalism. http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/03/new-splc-fear-mongering-report-explosive-growth-of-splc-fundraising-predicted/#more-46621 It’s a vicious circle against Republicans/conservatives. SPLC and others prepare these ‘reports’ that aren’t worth crap but the liberal media love to quote these reports, thus raising the SPLC profile and helping them fundraise.
As I posted a few weeks ago, Judicial Watch has documented disturbing collaboration between Eric Holder’s Department of Justice and the SPLC which results in the designation of “hate group” being attributed to those with opposing politics of the Obama administration. http://www.judicialwatch.org/press-room/press-releases/jw-obtains-emails-exposing-connections-between-doj-and-controversial-southern-policy-law-center/
I notice a couple of folks at PowerlineBlog question whether this is the best issue to filibuster but I’m glad someone has finally! got the MSM to notice that our supposed constitutional lawyer president has decided on his own to kill American citizens on American soil whenever he chooses.
I agree with this view:

Perplexing that Rand Paul has to go through this to ask a Nobel Peace Prize winner whether or not he agrees with killing U.S. citizens.
Here, Charles Krauthammer [Smart-USA] takes a kinder view of the Rand Paul filibuster.
