I’ve not been here much for about 3 weeks but I’m fine, hope you are too. I try to let you know when I won’t be posting but I didn’t get the chance this time for several reasons:
1. I’ve had computer eyestrain which combines with my chronic Ocular Rosacea to make my eyes sore, bloodshot with nasty-looking broken superficial blood capillaries, and extremely sensitive to any light, especially computers. I’ve had it worse and it’s getting much better but you just have to back away from the computer.
2. My dad’s doing very well this winterbut he’s needed more care recently including extra help during the night. I share the task with siblings but sometimes it’s been me.
3. The news and politics are just awful. Sometimes I just have to take time off and since I had to stay off the computer anyway, I got a little relief. The international news, our national security, Obama acting like a punk banty rooster prancing around, our ongoing debt, and the lack of much progress by the GOP all add up to a discouraging attitude.Time to recoup and get back in there.
4. I had mold in my upstairs – at least I thought I did – and it’s made me sick from allergies/asthma and frustrated to boot. Four years ago a couple of squirrels got into our attic and it was quite the adventure to get them out. I kept hearing noises at times but my husband didn’t so we finally put a motion-activated camera and caught the little buggers up there on film. I ran across the lone pic a week or two ago but now I can’t remember where I saw it. I wanted to post the pic here and it’s one of those things you worry about when you age – memory problems. It’s scary, just like when you get older every heartburn becomes a question mark for you. Still can’t find the pic and still worrying some but when it shows up I’ll post it.
So 4 years ago we hired a contractor to remove the old attic insulation, spray anti-mold, and lay down new insulation. We also put on a new roof, getting rid of the area the little &%$# tree vermin chewed up to enter the attic. Costs a few bucks so this new smell, which reminded me of that old smell, was upsetting, as well as dangerous to an asthma-sufferer like me. Couple of weeks ago, the husband went up and sprayed, saw nothing, sprayed again. I then realized the smell was actually centered on a potted lemon tree that’s about 10 years old. I can’t get close enough to discover the problem but we tucked it away in the basement and voila! no more mold smell in the attic. So much for assumptions. The basement stinks like crazy, though. My allergist is always telling me to get rid of all my house plants, which I’ve resisted doing.
Here’s where I am now: My eyes are getting better, my dad will only need increased attention for a few more days, and the mold problem seems a thing of the past. I’m on a reduced posting schedule but I’m here. Thanks for checking back, I know there’s a trillion blogs out there so I appreciate you sticking with me.
