Mitch McConnell owns the #1 scalp desired by the Democratic Party and they are going all out to take it and his seat in the US Senate. They’ve brought in the Clintons, especially Bill, who twice won his presidential races here, and of course Hillary won her 2008 primary contest here. Mitch’s opponent Alison Grimes’ father ran both of those campaigns here as head of the Kentucky Dems. How much of that was pro-Hillary and how much was anti-Obama is the question.
The Democrats have also sent in seasoned Obama campaigners and activists, just as they did in Texas. They want to change Texas from red to blue. Kentucky is not as red as some believe, Democrats own the state politics but they want to knock off Mitch, then in 2 years they want to knock off Rand Paul and also retain the governorship. The governorship looks to remain Democratic because the successful prosecution of Richie Farmer removed the top GOP contender. Knocking off Mitch makes it easier for the Dems to retain Senate control plus prevent Mitch as a possible Majority Leader of the Senate plus that would make it easier to knock off Rand Paul when the time comes.
The Grimes campaign made an ad supposedly depicting a Kentucky coal miner but it turns out he is a European model used in many ads. Spokesman Charly Norton provided CYA, http://www.politico.com/story/2014/06/alison-grimes-kentucky-coal-miner-model-107489.html
Then Grimes was really going to give the Obama administration what-on it anti-coal agenda at a big Democratic fundraiser hosted by Harry Reid but it turns out Grimes didn’t say a darn word about coal, as proven by an audio tape. Spokesman Charly Norton provided CYA. http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/perfect-candidate-kentucky-dem-grimes-refuses-criticize-coal-regulations-reid-fundraiser
How bad was this Grimes lie? So bad that even the liberal Associated Press, no friend to McConnell, called Grimes out on it. Both her campaign manager and spokesman Charly Norton tried to provide cover but Grimes is going for the union vote, a reliable base of the Democrats. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/07/08/fact-check-dem-senate-candidate-called-out-by-ap-over-this-dishonest-attack-ad/
At the big Fancy Farm picnic over the weekend, a Democratic operative who owns a Dem consulting firm tweeted a racist remark directed at Mitch’s wife Elaine Chao, who headed the Department of Labor during the George W Bush administration. Kathy Groob tweeted that she’s Asian, not Kentuckian. Uh oh. Maybe Groob missed one of those diversity and inclusion platform meets that the Dems so love. Spokesman Charly Norton is providing cover for Grimes. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2014/08/04/nky-dems-tweet-draws-fire/13571755/
Grimes has also played the WaronWomen theme. The way I see it: If Mitch can’t speak for women because he’s a man then Alison Grimes can’t speak for men because she’s a woman. Silly political games.
As a 5-minute Google search proves, Charly Norton was an activist with Obama for America, the political arm for Barack Obama, and she worked for the Rahm Emmanuel successful election as Mayor of Chicago. Let’s hope she’s not successful in Kentucky.
BTW, it’s funny that Dems are now attacking Mitch McConnell for not being sufficiently supportive of coal. For many years Dems have attacked Mitch McConnell for being in the pocket of big coal. Just a few years back, the very liberal Lexington Leader attacked McConnell for this and ran a major 3-part “expose” on his ties to coal. The article is archived but it made a big splash and Mitch was pummeled by Big Green and Dems.
