So Barbara Walters, most recently of TV’s The View, retired last week. Okay she had a long reporting career, virtually all on television, and she broke some new ground for women reporters. She once had a popular segment and then specials of interviews with famous people, including biggies like Castro. Most of her interviews were with celebrities and politicians, two notorious groups of attention-seekers. I never was a big fan but I understand that she had longevity and appeal with everyday Americans. She’s always been a liberal but during the Obama years she’s been nothing but a political hack, throwing softballs at Democrats while parsing a few Republican interviews, typically grim scary ones that conveyed a warning to voters to voters.
She was also a blatant hypocrite, e.g., chastising the former intern who contends she was basically raped by JFK and carried on an affair with him under the noses of Jackie, the Secret Service and the media. Babs didn’t think the woman, who was a very credible author and speaker, should say things about an affair while JFK’s daughter and grandchildren were alive. Babs, of course, famously discussed her affair with a married senator while his family is still alive.
Babs has spent the last 6+ years fawning over Barack and Michelle but she likes Hillary, too, and brought her out to a surprised audience on her last day, all the while doting. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-balan/2014/05/16/barbara-walters-fawns-over-most-fascinating-hillary-one-last-time-vie Oh yeah, Oprah showed up too.
In one last liberal swipe, The View brought out a slew of women in tv news from the Big 3 and all the main cable channels except ….. ta da, Fox News. Not one single woman from Fox. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2014/05/where-are-the-fox-gals-barbara-walters-legacy-a-gaggle-of-lib-female-reporters/
What did the Daily Insult, aka the [Ashland] Daily Independent do? The next day, this small supposedly local neutral newspaper that’s actually owned by a liberal Canadian media group which specializes in buying regional newspapers and liberalizing them, ran a full AP story – no byline – of seven columns with a huge accompanying photo of the whole liberal celebrity group hug. Walters deserved a story but nothing like this. If the paper is going to cover national news, why not give this space to the latest in the VA scandal? Or the Benghazi panel or any number of things. Heck I’d rather see this space given to the local high school speech team or whatever.
But this, this is the disturbing and deadly mixture of entertainment/celebrity with journalism that is destroying the right of American citizens to make informed decisions from the news..
