The poor Georgetown students have to pay $3000 over 4 years just for the ‘right’ to fornicate because they don’t have access to $9/month birth control pills available to the unwashed masses at Wal-Mart and Target. Alas, feminists at elite universities always are victims of some injustice. Solution: build more Big Box stores in DC!
Patheos is a website that features various religions or belief systems. Elizabeth Scalia, a Catholic representative there, is as disgusted as the rest of us. Foremost in Elizabeth’s arguments is the question of why this young woman went to a Catholic university and is shocked that it abides by Catholic policies. Why did she expect an institution that is built, maintained, and owned by a private church subsidy to perform as a secular institution? In her own words, she is resentful that it will not bend to her secular demands. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/theanchoress/2012/02/29/congressional-performance-art/
I’m alternatively amused and offended by this young woman’s testimony. What qualifies her to speak before Congress? She is a ‘reproductive rights activist’ who speaks for millions of women, she says. So what? Anyone can say she speaks for the multitudes but that doesn’t make it real jello.
In her ‘study’ she discovered that 40% of Georgetown female students are stressed out by the cost of birth control. No kidding. Within 10 minutes I can conduct a ‘study’ showing 100% of the people I poll believe Obama will get re-elected when pigs fly south for the spring but I doubt Gallup will accept it as ‘expert testimony.’
I think I’m most offended that this woman goes to a school costing $60,000/year but DEMANDS absolutely free drugs for a voluntary activity that violates the school’s ethics while in this nation there are kids with incurable diseases and their parents scramble to pay for the co-pay of an expensive drug, or in some cases, pay the entire cost of a rare or experimental drug.
Or maybe I’m most offended that in 2008 some of us warned that Obama was a radical/socialist who would attack religion with a vengeance. Did you vote for him anyway? Lean over here and let me whomp you up the side of the head just a bit.
